Mr-Glass Sliding & Patio Doors: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
If you have a Mr-Glass sliding or patio door in San Diego and a roller, handle, lock, or track has failed, we carry and install Mr-Glass-compatible replacement parts, with most swaps completed in one visit. Expect to pay between $140 and $480 installed for typical Mr-Glass parts, depending on what failed and which door series you have. You’ll usually know it’s gone bad the day the door suddenly drags, the latch won’t bite, or the panel grinds against the track like two bricks rubbing.

We’re Hale Windows San Diego, an independent window and door service company. We are not affiliated with Mr-Glass, but our technicians work on these doors across San Diego weekly, from Clairemont to Coronado to Chula Vista, and we stock the Mr-Glass part numbers that fail most often on our service trucks.
Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To
Mr-Glass sliding doors sold into Southern California fall into a few recognizable lines: the 2000-series, the 4000-series, and the heavier 6000-series multi-slide units. The 2000 and 4000 series share a common 1-inch roller assembly, but the 6000 series uses a taller stainless-steel carriage that is not interchangeable. That’s the first compatibility gotcha we see: someone installs a generic 1-inch roller in a 6000-series Mr-Glass track, and the door rolls for two weeks before the roller bearing flattens.
The quickest way to identify your Mr-Glass door is to check the glass etching in the corner of the panel, which typically shows the Mr-Glass name and a serial number beginning with MG. If the etching has worn off, a tape measure gets you there: measure the roller wheel diameter and the height of the worn housing. Many San Diego homes have original Mr-Glass doors from the 1990s through mid-2000s, and those units use an OEM roller that stopped being a stock item at most supply houses around 2012. For those, we use a machined aftermarket equivalent that matches the original wheel diameter within 0.5 millimeters. On newer Mr-Glass doors, we order OEM parts, because the tolerances on the 6000-series carriage do not forgive generic substitutions.
Signs Your Mr-Glass Sliding & Patio Door Is Failing
- The door drags or takes real effort to slide. The roller bearings have worn flat or the wheels have developed rust pitting from San Diego’s coastal humidity. Once the rollers stop spinning, the panel starts wearing the track itself.
- The latch handle flops or won’t stay locked. The internal spring in the Mr-Glass latch mechanism has snapped. This is the single most common Mr-Glass part we replace in San Diego homes, especially on doors that face west and take the afternoon sea breeze every day.
- The panel scrapes against the side jamb or leaves paint marks. The bottom rollers have collapsed, which drops the panel and throws it out of square. A panel that’s been running on a collapsed roller for three months usually needs both a roller set and a track straightening.
- You hear metal-on-metal grinding at the bottom of the door. The roller wheel has seized entirely and is now sliding, not rolling, across the aluminum track. Every slide carves grooves into the track, which is a more expensive repair than catching the roller early.
- The screen door derails or jumps the bottom track. Mr-Glass screen panels ride on a friction-fit lower guide. When that guide wears down or the track fills with salt crust and sand from San Diego’s marine layer, the screen hops off every third use.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
| Mr-Glass Part | Installed Price Range (San Diego) |
|---|---|
| Roller assembly (pair, 2000/4000 series) | $140 – $220 |
| Roller carriage (6000-series, per panel) | $190 – $310 |
| Latch and handle set | $120 – $240 |
| Screen door guide and roller replacement | $90 – $175 |
| Track reconditioning (deep clean, deburr, straighten) | $80 – $150 |
The price spread comes down to the series, how far the wear has gone, and whether the track needs work beyond the roller swap. Every quote is written before work starts, so the price you see is the price you pay. No change orders after we open the panel. Every Mr-Glass part we install carries our written repair guarantee: if it fails, the second visit is free, and every crew carries parts for the 2000, 4000, and 6000 series on the truck.
DIY or Call Us?
Sliding door roller replacement is not a high-tension job like a garage door spring, so safety risk is lower. What is high is the frustration factor. Lifting a Mr-Glass 4000-series panel out of its track usually requires two people, six feet of leverage, and a set of plastic shims to keep the panel from dropping back into the channel. The panels run 90 to 150 pounds, which is manageable, but the real problem we see is improvised tools: flathead screwdrivers bending back the roller housing tabs. That one mistake turns a $160 roller job into a housing replacement.
If you’re in San Diego and want the door fixed without lifting it yourself, call (619) 793-3248. We’ll match the part, put the price in writing, and be out quickly with the correct roller on the truck.
FAQs
Mr-Glass rollers and latches typically last 8 to 15 years in San Diego, but coastal exposure shortens that. Homes within two miles of the bay often see roller bearing failure at 6 to 8 years because the salt-laden marine layer works into the wheel bearings. Homes inland in neighborhoods like Santee or Rancho Peñasquitos often get 15 years on the same part. We also keep rollers for PGT, CGI, and CWS doors on the truck, since we service those brands every week in San Diego alongside Mr-Glass.
No. Roller assemblies are sealed units, so once the bearing goes flat or rusts out, the whole roller must be swapped. The track can sometimes be repaired with deburring and straightening, which we do in place without replacing the track. Call (619) 793-3248 for an exact quote on your door.
Most single-panel roller, latch, or screen guide replacements take 45 to 90 minutes. Multi-slide 6000-series panels take longer, usually two to three hours, because the panels are heavier and the carriages sit in tighter channels. We book the whole visit from a real person, not a voicemail, and our technicians show up pre-announced by name and photo.
Yes. Our San Diego crews carry the common Mr-Glass rollers, latch sets, and screen guides for the 2000, 4000, and 6000 series. If your door needs an OEM-only part with a longer lead time, we’ll tell you before any work starts and bring it back as soon as the manufacturer ships it.
If your Mr-Glass door is dragging, scraping, or won’t lock, call (619) 793-3248 for a free estimate. You’ll get a written price before anything is touched, and a live person answers the phone every time.
